We have our family traditional design of carving which represent historic background of our ancestor’s spiritual values, ritual and traditional values. Each of our carving is related to artist’s ancestors and will have written information about its meaning and symbols in tribe and traditions. Some carvings are direct symbols of object of the Mali Empire in West African.
Some are my tribal Fulani carving like the Mask Faces. Some are animal kingdom African has learned from this animal about life and our environment we live. Some are story telling object folk of African deep sea dragon (Ninki-Nanko).
This dragon was believed to have come to a village disguised as a man and stole the beautiful Fulani prince’s girl and took her to sea before turning her to half fish and half human. The carving of a dragon boat with strong wild tooth to scare any animal on its way of navigation in the rivers Gambia and Jallon in Futa. Some carvings are the artist’s own personalized objects and figures.
