Terms:

The Key stages are to follow the ten steeps of wood carving workshop. Once we satisfy with student we can start carving totem of their design. This can be a project which may last a short while or on a longer arrangement.

The workshop will be done outside in the school garden. As the public may be interested, parents and members of the local community are welcome to help and join the workshop.

Materials Required:

We will research and find a dry trunk of wood and if possible oak wood will be used.

The school needs to provide tools for student that will remain with the schools for any future wood work projects.
For health and safety reason artist will have his own assistant with the student. For the purpose of time scale the artist will have a full day of work for carving totem pole with or without the student to able to finish in time as these creations may take a long time to do according to the design chosen by the students.

Skill development with wood carving;

The wood carving is a basic technique for skills development and includes-developing Student creativity, Imagination, focus and concentration. It will help in building up confidence to work and to use your own initiative as well as the following:
 to know about properties inside a trunk of wood and values of wood grains.to know how to work and use wood in general.to know how to handle and use handy tools.

carving may help student to progress for doing Carpentry, Wood Work /Construction and Building work with woods.
it may also help to use the same skill and confidence with working with any handy tools. It will help them to respect the environment and life cycle of a tree. It will help to know the value and use of dead wood. Discover your personal intelligence and creativity.

Wood carving is a superb way of looking, seeing and using your imagination as to what is hidden inside a wood.
In human culture this is a part of our daily life to see and use our imagination and to know what is there for you. To be ready to learn for yourself and from others and to encourage self education.

I believe as an Artist that this helps self development and develops a process of evaluating your own mistakes and then correcting those mistakes as you see fit. Its helps students with an understanding of their own mind in decision making. Carving may also help student’s creative intelligence and presumably they will store it in their memory; use the intelligence side of their brain creating a positive memory rather than a possible memory of bad feeling.
It will encourage students to create their own design by just imaging and building up their confidence to do some thing positive and creative. To be aware of their own self belief. For example “Yes I can do that”!

Importantly to encourage students to be able to absorb pressure and stress at work and support them in the life we living in the world outside of school.
The creative mind will always challenge its self for doing and learning more in our future life. Trying something new and believing that you can do it and you will do it is a positive force for many students.
