Wood Carving & Design Craft Workshop

This workshop is about basic skills and techniques about the usage of handy shape tools and wood. We use wood in our every day life and practical to know about tree and about dead tree, wood as a material and timber properties.
The students will learn the ten steps of wood carving, handling and usage of tools and will be guided to ensure a safe use of the tools for health and safety reasons.

The students will also be introduced to the basic carving methods, creativity, imagination, designs form and shapes, cutting cleaning and decoration.
• Each student will have his or her own wood and tools to carve a piece wood.
• We will need to know how many students are going to participate in the workshop.
• The school will also provide a room, chairs and heavy duty table.

Workshops may be booked for one day or up to a ten weeks project.

Wood carving is an art of working to learn and develop creativity and requires following all the basic methods of carving. Once students carve their first piece of work, they may need to try carving again to further develop their carving skills.

Students can develop this skill of basic handy method to any level of work as they can learn more and more to become professional wood carvers.
They can visit a traditional family wood carving compound in the Gambia to learn about traditional wood carving, as well as live a life of a wood carver during their stay.

Carving Demonstration.

A practical demonstration, tailored for all ages and group sizes.The Artist will present his work and then give a practical demonstration of carving a piece for the organisation to keep.

The Artist will demonstrate wood carving by taking a piece of wood and carve an object from start to finish at a limited time scale.

During carving, the Artist will explain about different technique and skill involved in creating and carving object.
Carving may take between two hours to six hours depending on the type of project.
We will bring all our resources and materials for the demonstration. For schools and organisation a room or an area will be needed for chairs for people to sit and see amazing skills to use African carving tools. People may choose the design they like and according to the time limit.
