The Gambian Arts and Culture in Wales is pleased to offer your School or organisation the opportunity to host some of the most exciting & fresh inter-cultural workshops available in Cardiff, South Glamorgan and Wales. Pa-Modou is currently artist in residence at the creative community centre in Cardiff, Wales. See below some of the Workshops we currently offer.
This workshop takes a flat panel of wood which the group design together. This can also be extended into a workshop in which case the group will also craft their design as a team. This panel would be suitable for the organisation to use as a wall hanging or to incorporate into a piece of furniture such as a table. The Artist brainstorms with students to choose power animals that inspire them and represent their organisation. These ideas and drawings will then be translated into a hand carved sculpture and a lasting symbol for the community. Pa Modou Sowe inherited wood carving from his family and it represents the surname Sowe . African Wood carvers have long history about mask for generation to centuries. Mashers are the main expression of spiritual power of African wood carving, each tribe have own design and values of Maskers. It is work of my Family to do carving mask that may represent the Tribe and traditions.
Learn the technique, rhythms and melody used in Gambian drumming. This is a good team building exercise and also works as a ‘body meditation’ to quieten the mind and calm the body, stimulating focus and concentration. Drums are provided!!
